Tires - Preventing Tire Flat Spotting
Classification: WT11-002
Reference: ITB11-021
Date: March 10, 2011
NEW VEHICLE TIRE FLAT SPOTTING
APPLIED VEHICLES: New unsold Infiniti dealer in-stock units
SERVICE INFORMATION
Temporary tire Flat Spotting is common on New Dealer In-Stock vehicles that have not been occasionally moved.
Flat Spotting can occur after the vehicle has been parked (not moved) for a few days or longer. In most cases it is temporary. In extreme cases it can
be permanent.
As instructed in the Assurance Products Resource Manual vehicles should be moved 12 inches in one direction only every 30 days to prevent tire
Flat Spotting.
New vehicle inventory vibration incidents related to storage Flat Spotting are not considered warrantable repairs.
If tire Flat Spotting has occurred it can cause a vibration or shimmy condition that may be noticeable for the first several miles of driving.
Page 197
Factors that can influence Flat Spotting:
^ Long storage time without moving the vehicle may result in permanent flat spots.
^ High performance and high speed rated tires are more prone to flat spotting due to the internal construction and nylon use in these tires.
^ Shorter sidewall tires do not absorb irregularities (flat spots) as well as taller sidewall tires.
^ In colder temperature tires are stiffer which increases the tendency to have flat spots and increases the drive time needed to remove them.
Refer to the Service Procedure below if you have tires with Flat Spotting.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
^ It is important to remove any temporary Flat Spotting prior to performing tire balance, tire run out, and/or tire road force checks.
^ If the Flat Spotting is not removed it can result in incorrect measurements.
^ Temporary flat spots will return to original (near uniform) condition after driving for approximately 15 miles at highway speeds.
1. Drive the vehicle at highway speeds until the vibration (Flat Spotting) is eliminated.
NOTE:
^ In most cases flat spot vibrations will be eliminated within 15 minutes (about 15 miles) of driving.
^ If the vehicle has been stored without moving for an extended time it may be necessary to drive the vehicle up to 30 minutes (about 30 miles) at
highway speeds.
^ If the vibration goes away during the test drive no further action is required.
^ If the vibration is not completely eliminated during the test drive go to step 2.

  1. Within 10 minutes after driving the vehicle lift the vehicle so there is no load on the tries.

  2. Check the tire/wheel assemblies for balance run-out and road force variation. Correct as necessary.

This bulletin has been amended. The Title and ATF Level Check procedure have been amended. Please discard previous versions of this bulletin.
APPLIED VEHICLES:
All Infiniti vehicles with 7 Speed A/T using Nissan MaticS ATF
SERVICE INFORMATION
When filling up checking the ATF level or if the pan of a RE7R01 series 7 speed automatic transmission has been drained or removed a special tool
must be used.
Page 155
^ This special tool is the"Transmission Fill Pump" J-49829.
^ This special tool is considered "Essential" and was sent to each dealer on January 19, 2010. Your Non-Vehicle account will be charged the
introductory price of $177.85 plus applicable taxes and freight.
^ For proper use of this tool go to ATF Level Check.
CAUTION:
Fill the Transmission Fill Pump with new Nissan MaticS ATF (999MP-MTS00P) only. Never fill with any other fluid.
ATF Level Check

  1. Park the vehicle on a lift and set the parking brake.

  2. Connect CONSULT III (C-III) to the vehicle.

  3. With C-III monitor ATF temperature.

NOTES:
> ATF temperature must be maintained at 95-113F (35-45C) during ATF level check.
> If the ATF temperature is above 113F stop the engine to allow the ATF to cool down.
  1. Once the ATF temperature reaches approximately 04F (40C) or below start the engine and let idle.

  2. Shift the shift selector lever (shift lever) in each gear position and then return to Park.

  3. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

NOTE:
Leave the engine idling. If the engine is turned off, the ATF fluid level will be adjusted well below the proper level.
Page 156
7. Remove the overflow plug from the transmission pan (see Figure 1).
^ Have a drain pan positioned under the overflow plug hole.
^ At first an initial amount of fluid may come out. This does not mean the transmission is full.
NOTE:
The engine MUST BE IDLING the whole time during the fluid level check. If the engine is turned off, the ATF fluid level will be adjusted well
below the proper level.
IMPORTANT:
In order to make sure the transmission is full; you must overfill the transmission and then let the excess drain out from the overflow plug hole.
8 Connect the Transmission Fill Pump at the overflow plug hole (see Figure 2).
9. Pump in approximately 2 liters (about 2 quarts) of Nissan MaticS ATF.
10. Disconnect the Fill Pump hose at the quick disconnect (see Figure 2).
^ If a steady stream of fluid drains out go to the next step.
IMPORTANT:
The amount of fluid that drains out should be enough so that it is obvious the fluid was overfull and is now draining to the correct level.
NOTE:
The engine MUST BE IDLING the whole time during the fluid level check. If the engine is turned off, the ATF fluid level will be adjusted well
below the proper level.
^ If little or no fluid drains out repeat Step 8 and 9.
Page 157
11. Allow fluid to drain from the overflow tube until it is just a drip.
NOTE:
Check to make sure the fluid temperature is still in specified range (35-45C 95-113F).
12. Install a new overflow plug. This completes the ATF level check.
^ Torque the filler plug to 12.4 Nm (1.3 kg-m 9 ft lb).
Refill After Draining / Removing the Pan
1. With the pan and drain plug installed connect the Transmission Fill Pump at the overflow plug hole and then fill the pan with approximately 4
liters (about 4 US quarts) of Nissan Matic S ATF.
2. Perform ATF Level Check.

CAN COMMUNICATION CODES - DIAGNOSTIC TIPS & GUIDELINES
APPLIED VEHICLES: All 2005 - 2010 Infiniti vehicles
SERVICE INFORMATION
Related to communication codes U1000, U1001, U1002, U1010:
^ Always diagnose the communication codes first.
^ When a module reports a U1000 code, it is typically operating normally; however, there is a communication error external to that module on the
CAN network.
^ U1000 indicates an error. V-CAN diagram or CAN Diag Support Monitor provides data to determine the location of the error.
Step 1
Complete the CAN diagnosis with CONSULT-III (C-III).
^ Open ASIST first and then open C-III using the Consult Utilities icon. This step will help identify the CAN type on many vehicles using the SIS
function.
^ Ensure the correct CAN type is selected. Selecting the incorrect CAN type will lead to mis-diagnosis.
Step 2
View the V-CAN screen or print all CAN Diag Support Monitors (Shown below).
^ The V-CAN diagram screen is a snap shot only. It must be refreshed after any changes.
Step 3
Read the V-CAN diagram using the key provided OR reference the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) to analyze the CAN Diag Support
Monitor data. Determine the incident according to the display.
Step 4
If V-CAN diagnosis is not available or inconclusive, refer to the basic CAN diagnostic guidelines shown on pages 5-12. These represent electrical
values of the CAN system measured at the Data Link Connector or connectors at non-termination units.
To properly perform these basic checks:
^ The battery should be disconnected for resistance checks.
^ The ignition should be off.
Tips if a control module is the suspected root cause:
^ Improper module configuration or incorrect part numbers may set CAN DTCs.
^ Low battery voltage may set CAN DTCs.
Page 257
^ Always confirm the power, ground, and CAN resistance at a suspect module before replacing the module. Resistance should be close to 60 ohms
at the module (measured with the battery disconnected). The resistance at terminating modules should be close to 120 ohms. Examples of
terminating modules include IPDM, ECM, or BCM. Reference the appropriate ESM to determine the terminating modules.

This bulletin has been amended. Please discard previous versions.
APPLIED VEHICLES:
All Infiniti vehicles with Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
IF YOU CONFIRM
Page 143
The TPMS warning light is illuminated (continuously or flashing)
ACTIONS
STEP 1: Turn ignition to "OFF" and then "ON" position (engine not required to be running).
^ If the TPMS warning light is continuously illuminated (not flashing) the TPMS is operating normally and has detected low tire pressure in one of
the tires. Go to STEP 2.
NOTE:
> Normal tire pressure maintenance is not covered under warranty.
> Some 2011 and newer models will display an alert in the Vehicle "CHECK TIRE information display near the speedometer. The alert will
read "Check Tire PRESSURE Pressure" or similar and will accompany the illuminated TPMS light.
^ If the TPMS warning light is flashing for approximately one minute there is a TPMS system malfunction. Do not go to Step 2. Instead check the
DTC and refer to the Service Manual for repair instructions.
STEP 2: Leave the ignition in the "ON" position* (engine is not required to be running) and set the tire pressure to the recommended pressure.
^ Refer below for Important Tire Pressure Information.
* Leaving the ignition in the ON position may allow the TPMS to detect the corrected tire pressure more quickly on 2009 and newer models
(WITHOUT having to drive the vehicle).
Important Tire Pressure Information:
Each vehicle is equipped with a "Tire and Loading Information" placard (see example in Figure 1).
For factory equipped tires follow the recommended code pressure on the placard to set the tire pressure on the vehicle.
Tire pressure can be affected by factors such as tire temperature, outside temperature, time and altitude.
^ Refer to ITB08-015 for additional information about these factors that affect tire pressure including seasonal temperature changes.
When tire pressure is low make sure it is not caused by a leak. If needed repair as necessary.
After tires are inflated to the recommended pressure the vehicle may need to be driven at speeds above 16 mph for the TPMS to turn off the low tire
pressure warning light. DO NOT USE CONSULT TO RESET THE TPMS.
For additional Tire Pressure Information refer to ITB08-015 (Tire Pressure Information).

2005-2013 INFINITI; CAN COMMUNICATION - NETWORK DIAGNOSTIC FLOW CHART
APPLIED VEHICLES: All 2005 - 2013MY Infiniti Vehicles
SERVICE INFORMATION
This TSB is for troubleshooting of CAN Modules with "Diag-On-CAN" Diagnostics. The flow charts below are meant to troubleshoot current CAN
DTCs. The flow charts are intended to diagnose one module at a time; repeat the process as needed for additional control units.
Definition of CAN Codes:
U1000 - missing ECM CAN communications not related to OBD2 system
U1000 - missing CAN communications for all other ECUs
U1001 - missing ECM CAN communications related to OBD2 system
Page 347
U1002 - similar to U1000, but has a tighter timing spec to set the DTC
U1010 - Module has internal Issues
CLAIMS INFORMATION
Helpful Tips:
^ Always diagnose CAN communication codes first, U1000, U1001, U1002, U1010, then network codes, UXXXX, and then all other codes.
^ A quick method to test CAN communications is to operate the vehicles functions such as Hazards, Brakes, Tachometer, PRNDL, Speedometer,
4WD, Difflock, Seat Memory, Power Back Door or High Beams.
^ In a low voltage situation (less than 10V), modules will stop communicating at different voltages.
^ Integrated Power Distribution Module (IPDM) is a smart relay and fuse box. It powers other modules in the same way fuses and relays do.
^ CAN voltages can be checked via CONSULT.
^ Missing "Ignition 2" fuse or other high level fuses can cause CAN Diag Support Monitor to not work.
^ High level fuses such as "Ignition 1", "Ignition 2" and "Elec B" power many modules.
^ Pins/terminals can be bent and still pass visual inspection.
^ When troubleshooting a harness that has multiple inline connections, section off the harness and isolate it one portion at a time. Add a terminating
resistor to the end of the harness in substitution of the terminating modules.
^ If a module has multiple connectors, disconnect one at a time.
NOTE:
120 ohm resistors may be needed to perform diagnostics.

Date: February 21, 2012
EXTERIOR LAMP FOGGING
This bulletin has been amended. The Applied Vehicles section and the first paragraph of the Service Information section have been revised. Please
discard all previous versions. This bulletin supercedes ITB08-019A.
Page 104
APPLIED VEHICLES: 2001-2012 Infiniti, All Models
SERVICE INFORMATION
Occasionally customers may notice water vapor or fog in the exterior lamps. This is generally NOT due to a defect.
The following information illustrations and flow chart are provided to help you in determining if an incident for water/condensation in lamps is
normal or not.
All current exterior lamp assemblies are vented to the atmosphere (not sealed).
^ This is necessary to allow for expansion and contraction of air from temperature "variations" (warmer or colder) without damage to the lamp.
^ Moisture in the air sometimes "travels" into and out of the lamp assembly through these vents.
^ Certain environmental conditions may cause moisture to condense.
^ The fogging/cloudiness should disappear over time when the lamp is in a dry environment.
Fog may temporarily form inside the lens of the exterior lamp assemblies based on environmental conditions or sudden temperature changes (such as
in a car wash or parked on a cold sunny day). This is normal. See Figure 1.
NOTE:
This condensation can appear anywhere on the outer lens typically at its coldest location.
If the moisture trickles, drips, or pools it may not be considered normal and the headlamp assembly may have a water leak path. See Figure 2 for an
example.
Page 105
If large drops of water collect inside the lens refer to the flow chart above to find the next step to take.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Should a customer note water in a lamp assembly please use the following flow chart to determine if the condition is normal or requires lamp
replacement.

IMPORTANT:
The 30 minute time period is ideal to allow all of the oil to drain back to the oil pan (crankcase).
Page 271
13. Write down the exact oil level reading using the engine dipstick and ruler (see Figure 5).
^ To measure; line up the 0 mm edge of the ruler with the H mark on the dipstick.
^ The example in Figure 5 shows the oil level is 8 mm below the H mark.
14. Check service records for the last time the engine oil was filled.
NOTE:
For the purposes of this bulletin, the following documentation for oil level checked and filled will be accepted.
=> Repair / work order from any Infiniti dealer showing the vehicle mileage and indicating service for "check and refill oil level", or "oil and filter
change".
  1. Determine the number of miles driven since the last engine oil was filled.
