TPMS Diagnostic Chart



CAUTION:



^ Do NOT remove the Long Term Storage Fuse unless the ignition key is inserted in the ignition switch.



^ If the storage fuse is removed without the ignition key in the switch, the engine will not start.



^ To correct this condition if it occurs, first insert the fuse, then insert the key in the ignition switch.



^ See the Service Manual for more information.



IMPORTANT INFORMATION:



I.D. Registration:

^ This process informs or tell the control unit of each wheel transmitter's location (i.e. LF, RF, RR, and LR).



^ Reason: The control unit must know the location of each transmitter in order to correctly relay (send) pressure information about each tire/wheel.



Transmitter "Wake Up" Activation:



^ Turns on ("Wakes Up" each wheel transmitter allowing it to send pressure information to the control unit.



The chart shows some conditions which may require I.D. Registration and/or Transmitter "Wake Up" Activation.



NOTES:



1) In the case of a low tire pressure condition the TPMS warning light will come on. To turn the light OFF do the following:



^ Pump up the tire pressure to the correct setting.



^ Drive the vehicle over 20 MPH for several minutes.



2) Tire pressure signals from the wheel transmitters are updated by the control unit as follows:



Vehicle parked with ignition switch ON



^ Pressure information updated every hour*



Vehicle driven over 20 MPH



^ Pressure information updated every minute*



* When the ignition is first turned "ON", CONSULT-II will indicate "0" pressure and will not give an update for 1 hour. To save time



drive the vehicle over 20 MPH for a few minutes. The pressure information will then be updated.



SERVICE PROCEDURE



Wheel Transmitter Activation ("Wake Up") Procedure



This procedure must be performed using the TPMS Initialization Tool # J-45295.



IMPORTANT INFORMATION! DURING THIS ACTIVATION PROCEDURE:



^ Do NOT remove the Long Term Storage Fuse (also known as the "Electronic Parts Fuse").



^ Do NOT turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.



^ If you do either of the above all four wheel transponders will have to be re-activated.



1. Make sure the batteries in the TPMS Initialization Tool # J-45295 are in good strong condition. If needed use a tester to check battery



condition.

2. Confirm the Long Term Storage Fuse is installed in the vehicle's fuse panel (see Figure 2).



3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.



IMPORTANT:



The wheel transmitters must be activated in the order shown in Figure 3.

4. Position the TPMS Initialization Tool on the tire and center it with the valve stem (see Figure 4). NOTE: Do NOT touch the wheel with the



TPMS Initialization Tool.



5. Press the button on the TPMS Initialization Tool and hold the tool in position until the vehicle parking lights flash twice*.



^ This could take up to 15 seconds.



^ The parking lights* flash to confirm the wheel transmitter (the one you're working on) is activated.



* Except G35 Sedan and Coupe. The G35 Sedan and Coupe will sound horn only.



6. Perform step 5 on the remaining wheel transmitters in the order shown in Figure 3.



7. Confirm the TPMS warning light turns OFF after the last wheel transmitter is activated.



8. Turn the ignition key OFF then ON and confirm the TPMS Warning Light does the following:



^ Comes ON for 1 second then



^ Turns OFF and stays OFF

SERVICE PROCEDURE



Perform the following steps for both front door panels (left and right side).



1. Remove the front door panel (finisher).



^ Refer to Section EI in the appropriate Electrometric Service Manual (ESM) for door panel removal information.



2. Lay the door panel face down on a clean flat work surface.



NOTE:



Cover the work surface with a clean cloth fender cover (or other suitable protector) to prevent staining or damage to the door panel face.

3. Apply a piece of felt cloth tape to each support rib under the top edge of the door panel (see Figures 1 and 2).



^ Use felt cloth tape P/N 68370-4B000 listed in the Parts Information.



^ Close-up of support ribs with felt cloth tape applied.

4. Apply a felt pad PN 80906-AL500 to the area (on the backside of the door panel) as shown in Figure 3.



5. Apply EPT Seals from the Felt Pad Kit to the areas (on the backside of the door panel) shown in Figure 3.



6. Apply PE Foam pads from the Felt Pad Kit to the areas (on the backside of the door panel) shown in Figure 3.



7. Apply Urethane Foam pads PN 80845-AL500 to each door release cable as shown in Figure 4.



8. Re-install the door panel in reverse order of removal.



9. Test the vehicle by playing the radio and test driving to make sure the noise(s) are gone.

1. Remove the top of the air filter box with airflow meter assembly from the vehicle.

4. Install a new airflow meter sensor.



^ Do Not replace the entire airflow meter housing; replace only the sensor listed in the Parts information.



5. Reinstall the top of the air filter box with airflow meter assembly back into the vehicle with a new Genuine Nissan air filter.

SERVICE PROCEDURE



1. Remove the top of the air filter box with airflow meter assembly from the vehicle.



^ Refer to section EC in the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for vehicle specific removal information.



2. Remove the airflow meter sensor from the airflow meter housing.



^ It's held on with 2 T20 Tamper Resistant Torx(R) screws.

3. Thoroughly clean the air filter box and the airflow meter housing.



^ Wipe out the entire inside area of the airflow meter housing with a clean rag (see Figure 2).



^ Use low-pressure compressed air or a shop vacuum to clean out all dust, dirt, and debris from inside both halves of the air filter box and



inside of the airflow meter housing (see Figures 2 and 3).



CAUTION:



Cover the ducting from the throttle body with a clean shop towel or other method so dirt or debris can not enter the engine intake manifold.



4. Install the new airflow meter sensor into the old airflow meter housing (see Figure 1).



^ Do Not replace the entire airflow meter housing; replace only the sensor listed in the Parts information.



^ Tighten the screws to 1.2 - 1.8 N.m (0.12 - 0.18 Kg-m, 11 - 16 in-lb)



5. Reinstall the top of the air filter box with the airflow meter assembly back into the vehicle with a new Genuine Nissan air filter.



IMPORTANT:



^ A new Genuine Nissan air filter element must be used for all warranty claims and any other claim for which Nissan pays.



^ A new Genuine Nissan air filter element is designed to be compatible with the Nissan airflow meter and has proven to provide



adequate dust protection.



^ It is strongly recommended that customers continue using genuine Nissan air filters when replacement is required for routine

SERVICE INFORMATION



The most common cause of vehicle vibration at highway speeds is tire/wheel assembly (or road wheel) non-uniformity. There are three primary



contributors that affect tire/wheel assembly vibration:



^ Imbalance



^ Radial run-out



^ Tire Road Force Variation (RFV, or Radial Force Variation)



The Hunter Road Force GSP9700 tire balancer (GSP9700) has the capability to measure tire Road Force Variation (RFV).



When measuring RFV, it is important to look at both the RH1 and RH2 values.



This bulletin will instruct you how to:



^ Prepare the tire/wheel assemblies for balancing on your GSP9700



^ Measure and display RH1 and RH2



^ Determine if the tire/wheel assemblies are within specified limits



Road Force Variation



Radial Force Variation (RFV) is a measurement term. Tire RFV is a measure of the variation (up and down) of the load action on the spindle, the



force applied to the suspension as the tire turns. This measures the tires uniformity under load.



The primary measures for RFV are: 1st harmonic, once per revolution, or RH1 and 2nd harmonic, twice per revolution, or RH2.



Tire/wheel assembly uniformity can only be measured under load.



The GSP9700 measures uniformity by using a load roller. The load roller simulates a load on a tire similar to when it is mounted on a vehicle and



driven on the road.



Most road wheel vibration issues are due to road force variation of RH1 or RH2. Of the two, RH1 is more common.



RH1 vibration causes the road wheel to hop/bump once per revolution. This creates a vibration similar to an imbalance condition.

RH1 can cause steering wheel shimmy or shake, and/or body vibration.



RH1 may be caused by:



^ Imbalance



^ Radial run-out



^ Tire uniformity, or RFV



RH2 can be the primary cause of vibration, although it is not as common as RH1.



RH2 vibration occurs twice per revolution and may be caused by:



^ Radial run-out of tire and/or wheel (i.e., oval or egg shaped)



^ Tire uniformity



Preparing Tire/Wheel Assemblies before Measuring Uniformity (RFV)



1. Check (and adjust as necessary) all tire pressures.



2. Warm up the tires by driving the vehicle a minimum of 15 minutes at highway speeds.



^ This will remove any temporary flat spots prior to testing (refer to ITB11-021).



3. Verify the incident after performing the 15 minute warm-up.



4. If the incident is verified, check uniformity of all tire/wheel assemblies.



Mounting a Tire/Wheel Assembly to a GSP9700



Follow all applicable instructions in the manufacturers operators manual.



Make sure to:



^ Use the correct collet and flange plate (refer to ITB11-005)



^ Check for and remove debris on all road wheels



^ Perform a centering check (to make sure the road wheel is mounted properly on the balancer)



Measuring Tire/Wheel Assembly Uniformity (RFV)



NOTE:



For details regarding measurement of RFV, refer to the manufacturers operators manual.



1. Once properly mounted, spin the tire/wheel assembly.



2. Without measuring Rim Run-out:

a. Using the menu shift key, navigate to and select "Show Runout & Force Matching" (see Figure 1).



b. From the "Current Runout & Road Force" screen below, select "Show Details" (see Figure 2).

c. "Assembly Road Force" will display (see Figure 3).



^ See value for "R2H" (RH2).



RH1 Above Limit



If RH1 is above the applied limit shown in the table below, perform the following.



1. Mark the tire at the high spot of RFV, and then at the same location on the wheel (see Figure 4).



^ This will be the reference point to the original indexed location.



2. Deflate the tire, and then break down both beads from the wheel.



3. Rotate the tire 180 degrees on the rim.



4. Seat both beads (refer to ITB11-022), and then inflate the tire to specified pressure.



5. Measure RFV again.



6. Mark the second high spot of RFV.



a. If the second tire mark is within 4 inches of the first tire mark and RFV is still over the guidelines listed below, the root cause is most



likely the tire.



b. If the second tire mark is within 4 inches of the mark on the wheel and RFV is still over the guidelines, the root cause is most likely the

wheel.



c. If the second tire mark is still over the guidelines and did not locate where stated in 6a or 6b:



> Runout can likely be improved by rotating the tire and it second mark another 90 degrees in the direction of the first mark.



RH2 Above Limit



If RH2 is above the applied limit shown in the table above, replace the tire.

Accessory wheel locks, wheel lock keys, or vehicle wheels that are damaged due to improper installation or removal will not be considered a

Accessory Wheel Lock Installation / Removal Guidelines



^ For ease of removal, the wheel lock nut should always be the first lug nut removed.



^ If needed, clean threads on lug studs with a wire brush.



^ The wheel lock nut should always be the last lug nut tightened.



^ Always use the special key supplied in the wheel lock set to install and remove the wheel locks.



^ Always tighten the wheel lock nuts using a hand torque wrench to the torque specification in the Service Manual.

This bulletin supplements the diagnostic and repair information in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for the factory installed auto dimming



mirror with compass.



When servicing the auto dimming mirror or compass refer to the information in this bulletin along with the repair information contained in the ESM.

The factory installed auto dimming mirror with compass is manufactured by Gentex. It can be identified by looking for GNTX stamped in the back



of the mirror case along with patent and other information. Also the factory installed mirror with compass has the compass display on the mirror face



as shown in Figure 1.



Auto Dimming Mirror Operational Description



^ The automatic dimming mirror uses two photoelectric sensors to detect front and rear light conditions.



^ Based on input from these sensors the mirror is adjusted to eliminate unwanted glare.



^ The amount of adjustment is dependant on the amount of light detected by the rear sensor in relationship to the ambient light (surrounding light)



detected by the front sensor.



^ The mirror will automatically return to a "no dimming" mode whenever the vehicle is placed in REVERSE to ensure an improved view when



backing up.



Sensor Action



^ When the front sensor detects daytime conditions the rear sensor is inactive and the mirror remains in a "no dimming" mode.



^ When the front sensor detects nighttime conditions the rear sensor is active and detects any source of glare (light) coming from the rear (mainly



headlights from approaching vehicles). The mirror will automatically adjust the amount of dimming needed to remove the unwanted glare from



the inside rear view mirror.



NOTE:



Don't let anything get in the way of the front or rear sensors. If anything blocks the sensors they may not work correctly.

Auto Dimming Mirror Operational Check



All checks must be performed with the ignition ON, and the auto dimming function turned ON (green LED indicator is ON).



Mirror Compass Operational Description

^ This electronic compass is able to display 8 primary directions: N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW.



^ All standard compasses determine direction relative to Magnetic North; however this electronic compass is designed to display direction relative



to True North.



^ The difference between Magnetic North and True North varies from place to place across the surface of the earth.



^ This electronic compass must be "told" approximately where it is on the earth's surface so that the Magnetic North reading can be properly



converted into a True North display.



^ To tell the electronic compass where it's at the earth is separated into numbered Zone Vanances (see zone variance map). The Zone Variance



number in which the compass is to function must be entered into this electronic compass.



^ Each zone is magnetically about 4.2锟斤拷 wide. Typically anything under 22.5锟斤拷 total zone change is not noticed on the electronic compass display.



However over 22.5锟斤拷 a reading may be off by one or more primary directions.



^ On long trips a vehicle may leave its original zone and enter one or more new zones. Generally you do not need to reset the compass zone if you



travel between 3 or 4 zones such as business travel or vacation. The typical driver will not notice any difference on the display within 3 or 4



zones. However if the vehicle is permanently moved to a new location it is recommended that the compass zone be reset.



Compass Troubleshooting



^ The electronic compass is highly protected from changes in most magnetic fields. However some large changes in magnetic fields can affect it.



Some examples are (but not limited to): high tension power lines large steel buildings subways steel bridges automatic car washes large piles of



scrap metal etc. While this does not happen very often it is possible.



^ During normal operation the Compass Mirror will continuously update the compass calibration to adjust for gradual changes in the vehicles



magnetic "remnant" field. If the vehicle is subjected to high magnetic influences the compass may appear to indicate false headings become



locked or appear that it is unable to be calibrated. If this occurs perform the calibration procedure.



^ If at any time the compass continually displays the incorrect direction or the reading is erratic or locked you need to verify the correct zone



variance (see steps 1, 2 and 3 of the Compass Calibration Procedure).

The compass calibrates itself under normal driving conditions. However occasional circumstances may cause the compass to operate



inaccurately. Example: Driving from rural (wide open) areas to crowded city areas or if an aftermarket (i.e. non original equipment) antenna with



a magnetic base is attached to the vehicle. Calibrate the mirror compass if the display shows only one direction or a limited number of directions.

If a 2001-2006 Infiniti vehicle equipped with Manual Transmission needs servicing for warranty repairs, Nissan Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)



HQ Multi 75W-85 oil (P/N 999MP-MTF00P) is required.



Important Note:



Nissan MTF HQ Multi 75W-85 oil must be used when performing manual transmission repairs paid by Infiniti. These include warranty, service



contract, or goodwill repairs. Infiniti will not reimburse dealers for manual transmission repairs when Nissan MTF HQ Multi 75W-85 oil is not



used.



If a manual transmission requires the oil be drained for maintenance or repair (customer pay work), 75W-85 oil is required as the service fill fluid.



Infiniti recommends use of MTF HQ Multi 75W-85 oil, which optimizes shift quality, for customer pay use as well.

^ When an ECM has been reprogrammed it will display a new P/N on the CONSULT-II screen.



NOTE:



ECM reprogramming will not effect NATS.



^ ECM reprogramming requires the use of ASIST 8.0 or higher and CONSULT-II with the ECU Reprogramming Software Card (orange color).



^ Use the Service Procedure steps to transfer ECM reprogramming data from the ASIST PC to CONSULT-II and from CONSULT-II to the



vehicle ECM.



^ Refer to the ECU Reprogramming Software Operations Manual (in ASIST) for additional information on using CONSULT-II for ECM

CAUTION

Service Procedure



NOTE:



When ECM reprogramming is required to repair a vehicle a Technical Service Bulletin will be issued.



ECM reprogramming involves two general steps:



^ Download (transfer) data from ASIST into CONSULT-II.



^ Download new data from CONSULT-II into the vehicle (Reprogram ECM).



Before beginning the reprogramming procedure use CONSULT-II and the Diagnostic Card (red/white one) to retrieve any stored DTC(s).



Additional repairs may be necessary if there are DTC(s) not associated with a Reprogramming bulletin. Refer to the appropriate TSB or



Service Manual.



SETTING UP:



1. Install the Reprogramming Card into CONSULT-II.



^ The Reprogramming Software Card is the "orange" Card.



^ Use slot A-top slot (see Figure 1).



2. Connect the AC power supply to CONSULT-II.



3. Connect CONSULT-II to the ASIST PC with the special Ethernet cable (P/N 02002554 is printed on the cable).



A. Connect one end to CONSULT-II at the "PC port".



B. Connect the other end to the ASIST PC at the "Ethernet card connection port.



4. Confirm the CONSULT-II date and time are correctly set as follows:



(This is necessary to provide a valid print-out for warranty claims.)



A. With the Reprogramming card in slot A turn "ON" CONSULT-II.



B. Touch [SUB MODE].

C. Touch [SET DATE] (see Figure 2).



1) If the date is not correct touch the [MONTH, DAY] or [YEAR] as needed. Then adjust it by using arrow keys. Once done, press



[SAVE], press [BACK] and go to step D.



2) If the date is OK press [BACK] and go to step D.



D. Touch [SET TIME] (see Figure 2).



1) If time is not correct touch the [HOUR], [MINUET] or [AM/PM] as needed. Then adjust it by using arrow keys. Once done press



[SAVE], press [BACK] and go to step 5.



2) If time is OK press [BACK] and go to step 5.



4. Set the Ethernet (IP) Address between the ASIST PC and CONSULT-II as follows:



NOTE:



If your ASIST terminal has been used to perform ECM Reprogramming before you may skip steps "A" through "J" below and proceed to



step 5 under "DOWNLOAD (TRANSFER) DATA FROM ASIST INTO CONSULT-II".



If you are unsure whether your ASIST terminal has been already set up for ECM Reprogramming, proceed to step "A" below.



A. On the ASIST PC click "START", "PROGRAMS" and "MS.DOS".



B. When the MS-DOS Prompt window appears after C:\WINDOWS> type: winipcfg (see Figure 2a).

C. Click "ENTER". The "IP Configuration" window will display the IP Address and Subnet Mask (see Figure 2b).



D. On CONSULT-II touch [SUB MODE], then touch [CONFIGURE ETHERNET].



E. Compare the IP Address on the ASIST PC with the Address on the Configure Ethernet screen of CONSULT-II.



^ If the first three sets of numbers of the CONSULT-II Address match the IP Address on the ASIST PC (as noted in step 4C above)



proceed with step 41 below.



^ If the first three sets of numbers of the CONSULT-II Address do not match the IP Address on the ASIST PC proceed with step 4F



below.



F. Touch the Address number on the CONSULT-II screen (titled "Configure Ethernet"). A numeric keypad will appear (see Figure 2c).



NOTE:



The IP Address for the ASIST PC you are working on will be different from the Address shown in Figure 2c.



G. Use the key pad to set the CONSULT-II Address to match the ASIST PC IP Address with the exception that the CONSULT-II Address



number ends with 176.



H. Touch [SAVE] and then press [COPY] to print the Address for future reference.



I. Turn off CONSULT-II to allow the new Address to be saved in memory.



J. On the ASIST PC close the "IP Configuration" window close the "MS-DOS Prompt" window then proceed with step 5 below.

5. From the ASIST PC main menu screen select "CONSULT UTILITIES" (see Figure 3).



6. From the "CONSULT UTILITIES" screen select "ECM/TCM DATA" (see Figure 4).

7. Select the "ECU REPROGRAMMING DATA" (see Figure 5) as follows:



A. Select vehicle model and model year.



B. Select the correct reprogramming data:



1) Locate the specific Model Configuration (Example: VQ35 4A/T ASCD).



NOTE:



^ Model Configuration may include items like engine type transmission type and vehicle options such as ASCD TCS ABS etc.



^ Vehicle configuration can be verified using the Current ECM P/N chart. This will be shown in the TSB that told you to reprogram the



ECM.



2) Select (click on) the "To" number.



NOTE:



The "To" number reads: 23710-XXXXX.



3) Write the To number on the Repair Order. You will need it later in the reprogramming process.



C. Click on the "Add" button to add data to the File(s) selected list on the right side of the screen.



D. Click the "CONTINUE" button to proceed with CONSULT-II setup.

8. Turn ON CONSULT-II as shown in Figure 6.



9. Select [Transfer files via LAN] (see Figure 7).



NOTE:



If you accidentally choose a menu option other than "Transfer Files via LAN"; turn CONSULT-II "OFF" and then back "ON" as shown in



Figure 6 above.



Set the CONSULT-II unit down for now and go to your ASIST PC.



10. Transfer (download) data from ASIST into CONSULT-II.



A. On the ASIST screen click on "Transfer" (see Figure 8).



^ Data transfer will take about 15 seconds per file.



^ Transfer progress is displayed on the ASIST screen (see Figure 8).



B. Wait until the data transfer is complete (see CAUTION below).

CAUTION:



DO NOT DISCONNECT THE ETHERNET CABLE UNTIL "COMPLETE" IS DISPLAYED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 9.



^ If the cable is disconnected before "Complete" is displayed you MUST restart the transfer (download) procedure; otherwise ECM



damage can occur.



^ If the cable is disconnected during the transfer; wait for ASIST to display an "error message then click on "OK". Select "Backup" then



return to step 6.



11. When transfer is complete (see Figure 9):



A. Select (click on) "Okay" then "MAIN MENU".



B. Turn OFF CONSULT-II.



C. Disconnect the AC power cord and the Ethernet cable from CONSULT-II.



DOWNLOAD NEW DATA FROM CONSULT-II INTO THE VEHICLE (REPROGRAM ECM)



CAUTION:



Perform this operation in four (4) sections. DO NOT SKIP any of these sections. They must be performed in order 1 through 4.



^ Section 1: Connect a battery charger and CONSULT-II to the vehicle.



^ Section 2: Confirm the vehicle battery voltage and CONSULT-II "Charger Input".



^ Section 3: Perform ECM Reprogramming.



^ Section 4: Perform ECM Reprogram Confirmation.



Section 1: Connect a battery charger and CONSULT-II to the vehicle.



12. Confirm the ignition switch is "OFF".



13. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle battery.



A. Set the charger at a low charge rate (trickle charge).



IMPORTANT



Do not perform ECU reprogramming without connecting a battery charger to the vehicle's battery. Permanent ECU damage can occur.



Connecting a vehicle battery charger will maintain:

^ Proper CONSULT-II power supply during reprogramming-very important if the CONSULT-II battery is low.



^ Vehicle battery voltage level-especially on late model vehicles where the cooling fans come on during reprogramming.



14. Connect CONSULT-II to the vehicle using the DLC-II cable with black Converter Box (see Figure 10).



VERY IMPORTANT:



^ Make sure the DLC-II is straight and fully plugged in to the vehicle.



^ Make sure all other DLC-II cable connections shown in Figure 10 are connected properly.



CAUTION



^ Infiniti requires the use of essential tools shown in Figure 10 when performing ECM reprogramming.



^ J44200-10 "Pigtail" should not be removed from the CONSULT-II DDL Port. This Pigtail allows use of the stronger "quick



disconnect" cable set.



^ If cables are very often changed at the DDL Port (base) of the CONSULT-II, unit cable connector pin damage may result.



^ If there is connector pin damage ECM reprogramming may fail. Permanent ECU damage can occur.



15. Turn "ON" the ignition switch (do not start the engine).



^ CONSULT-II will turn ON automatically (see Figure 11).



^ Confirm that all electrical loads* (except for the ignition) are "OFF".



^ * Headlights defroster A/C Audio (radio) and cellular telephone etc.

16. Roll down the driver's window part way exit the vehicle close the door and hang the CONSULT II unit on the outside of the window (see



Figure 12).



This step is necessary to ensure the CONSULT-II and DLC-II cable will not be disturbed during reprogramming.



CAUTION:



DO NOT connect the CONSULT-II AC power supply for Steps 17, 18 and 19.



Section 2: Confirm the vehicle's battery voltage and CONSULT-II "Charger Input"



17. Press [SUB MODE] (see Figure 11) then:



A. Press [DOWN] 4 times.



B. Select [BATTERY CHARGE].



18. Check the CONSULT-II's "Charger Input" reading (see Figure 13).



NOTE:



^ "Battery Voltage" is the voltage level of CONSULT-II's battery.



^ "Charger Input" is the voltage level of the vehicle's battery. (It must be above 12 volts.).



19. The "Charger Input" reading [MUST] be above 12 volts (see Figure 13 above).



^ A reading above 12 volts confirms;



a. The DLC-II is properly connected to the vehicle



b. The vehicle battery voltage is sufficient for ECM reprogramming and



c. CONSULT-II has a sufficient power supply to perform ECM reprogramming.



^ If the vehicles battery voltage ("Charger Input") is below 12 volts one or more of the following may be the cause:

a. The battery charger you hooked up in section 1 is not charging the battery (poor connection or it is not working).



b. The DLC-II does not have a good connection to the vehicle (not straight).



c. The DLC-II cable may have a malfunction (damaged wire or pins).



d. The CONSULT-II Converter (J44200-50 / black box) is not working correctly (see Figure 10).



CAUTION:



^ Do not attempt ECU reprogramming if the vehicles battery voltage is below 12 volts.



^ Permanent ECU damage can occur if the vehicle battery does not maintain the minimum voltage during ECU reprogramming.



If Charger Input is above 12 volts power from the vehicle battery will keep CONSULT-II's power supply at the correct level during



reprogramming. (see Figure 13).



Section 3: Perform ECM Reprogramming



20. Press [INITIATE ECU REPROGRAM] then



A. Press [ECM]



B. Review the precaution



C. Press [NEXT] (see Figure 14)



21. Press [CHECK ECM P/N] to "confirm" (take note of) the current ECM part number (see Figure 15).



NOTE:



This is the vehicle's ECM part number BEFORE reprogramming.

22. Press [COPY] to print the current ECM part number for future reference.



23. Press [BACK] to return to the main menu.



24. Select the ECM program to install (see Figure 16).



25. The "REPROGRAM START" window should appear (see Figure 17).



NOTE:



If you get an error message refer to the ECU Reprogramming Software Operations Manual.



CAUTION DURING REPROGRAMMING:



^ Do not unplug CONSULT-II from the vehicle during reprogramming. Permanent ECM damage can occur.



^ Do not open any door or the trunk during reprogramming.



^ On some vehicles the cooling fans may come on during reprogramming. This is a normal condition. Do not disconnect the cooling



fans. Forgetting to reconnect them may cause severe engine damage. A vehicle battery charger is needed* to maintain the battery



voltage level during reprogramming.



* You should have hooked up a battery charger in Section 1



26. Press [START].

^ After a few seconds the window shown in Figure 18 will appear.



^ CONSULT-II will now turn OFF its screen backlight.



^ When the screen backlight goes "OFF" ECM reprogramming has started.



NOTE:



This process will take from 10 to 20 minutes.



CAUTION:



You must leave the vehicle CONSULT-II and the DLC-II cable "undisturbed" (don't touch) until reprogramming is complete.



NOTE:



If CONSULT-II gives you an error message "Unmatch of Vehicle Data":



^ You tried to reprogram with an incorrect data file or



^ You are trying to reprogram with a file that is already in the ECM.



27. When the Reprogramming is complete CONSULT-II will "beep" turn the screen backlight back "ON" and automatically print out a report (see



Figure 19).



^ Remember it may take up to 20 minutes.



A. Attach the print-out to the repair order for future reference.



CAUTION:



If CONSULT-II prints "REPROGRAMMING UNEXPECTEDLY TERMINATED":



^ The ECM has been permanently damaged and will require replacement.

^ In this case perform steps A through G (Refer to the page shown in the image above.)



Do not start the engine with the damaged ECM installed.



28. Press [END] to return to the main menu.



29. Turn the ignition switch "OFF" and CONSULT-II "OFF".

30. Wait more than 10 seconds, then turn the ignition switch "ON" for 1 second. Then, turn the ignition switch "OFF" again for 10 seconds (see



Figure 20).



^ This will reset ECM self learned Data.



Section 4: Perform ECM Reprogram Confirmation.



31. Start the engine.



32. Check engine idle speed.



^ If idle speed is too low perform IAVL (Idle Air Volume Learning). See the appropriate Service Manual (ESM) for this procedure.



NOTE:



If the engine will not idle hold the engine RPM at about 2000 then slowly bring it down to an idle. IAVL can now be performed.



33. Confirm the engine is operating normally.



34. Make sure the Check Engine Light (MIL) is not "ON".



^ If necessary use CONSULT-II and the Diagnostic Card (red/white one) to erase any DTC's that may have stored during the reprogramming
