Diagnosis Procedure



1.CHECK GROUND CONNECTION



1. Turn ignition switch OFF.



2. Check ground connections M16, M70. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Component



Tests and General Diagnostics/Power Supply and Ground Circuit.



Is the inspection result normal?



YES - GO TO 2.



NO - Repair or replace ground connections.



2.CLEAR THE MIXTURE RATIO SELF-LEARNING VALUE



1. Clear the mixture ratio self-learning value. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and



Inspection/Programming and Relearning/Mixture Ratio Self - Learning Value Clear/Special Repair Requirement.



2. Run engine for at least 10 minutes at idle speed.



Is the 1st trip DTC P0171 or P0174 detected? Is it difficult to start engine?



YES - Perform trouble diagnosis for DTC P0171 or P0174. See: P Code Charts/P0171.



NO - GO TO 3.



3.CHECK HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 2 (HO2S2) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT



1. Turn ignition switch OFF.



2. Disconnect HO2S2 harness connector.



3. Disconnect ECM harness connector.



4. Check the continuity between HO2S2 harness connector and ECM harness connector.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT INFORMATION



This bulletin has been amended. The "Operations Performed Report" was added. Discard previous versions of this bulletin.

SERVICE INFORMATION



^ When performing a wheel alignment it is important that you read and follow all of the instructions supplied with your alignment equipment.



^ The information in this bulletin is not intended to be complete wheel alignment instructions.



^ Use the information in this bulletin as a supplement to the instructions for your equipment.



General Information and Recommendations



1. Four-Wheel Thrust Alignment should always be performed.



^ This type of alignment is recommended for all Infiniti vehicles.



^ The four-wheel thrust process ensures that the vehicle is properly aligned and helps ensure proper entenng of the steering wheel.

2. Use the right alignment machine.



^ You must use a quality alignment machine that will give accurate results when performing alignment checks.



^ Refer to the Infiniti TECH-MATE Service Equipment Catalog for recommended alignment equipment.



^ The alignment rack itself should be capable of accepting any Infiniti vehicle.



^ The rack should be checked to ensure that it is level.



3. Make sure the alignment machine is properly calibrated.



^ Your alignment equipment should be regularly calibrated in order to give accurate readings.



^ If any instrument that is part of the alignment machine is dropped or damaged calibration should be checked immediately.



^ Check with the manufacturer of your specific equipment for their recommended service/calibration schedule.



NOTE:



In order to properly document any warranty alignment claim the following item MUST be attached to the Repair Order:



^ A copy of the alignment machine printout showing the BEFORE and AFTER alignment readings.



IMPORTANT:



If you do not attach the above item to the Repair Order the claim may be denied (rejected or charged back).



ALSO:



^ A copy of the yearly alignment machine calibration certification must be held on file in the Service Dept.



^ When finished complete the Operations Performed Report and attach it to the repair order.



4. Make sure the "turn plates" and "slide plates" are in good working order:



^ The surface of the front turn plates must be level with (the same height as) the rack surface.



^ If height is not the same; have the equipment repaired before performing any alignments.

^ Make sure the front turn plates:



> Do not wobble (no up/down movement).



> Operate (slide and turn) smoothly in all directions.



If there is any issue with the turn plate operation - have the equipment repaired before performing any alignments.



^ Make sure the rear slide plates:



> Do not wobble (no up/down movement).



> Operate (slide) smoothly in all directions.



If there is any issue with the slide plate operation - have the equipment repaired before performing any alignments.



5. Make sure the lock pins for the front "turn plates" and rear "slide plates" are in place.



NOTE:



Lock pins should remain in place until caster sweep.



The Alignment Process



IMPORTANT:



Use only the alignment specifications listed in the appropriate Service Manual when adjusting the alignment.



1. Make sure the vehicle is straight on the alignment rack.

^ Vehicle must be straight (in line) with the alignment rack before entering the rack as shown in Figure 4.



^ Do not straighten the vehicle while on the rack (see Figure 5).



^ If the vehicle needs to be straightened exit the alignment rack straighten the vehicle and then re-enter the rack.



^ Once the vehicle is straight on the rack do not turn/center the steering wheel-keep the front wheels straight.



2. Position vehicle on the front turn plates as follows:



^ Stop vehicle just behind the turn plates.



^ Center the turn plates to the tires.

^ Move the vehicle onto the turn plates by turning/pushing the rear wheel.



DO NOT push/pull on the vehicle body.



^ Center the front wheels on the turn plates.



^ Chock the left rear wheel.



Preliminary Checks:



3. Perform pre-alignment checks.



^ Tire condition (wear partial wear flaws etc.)



^ Road wheel condition (damage and deformation)



^ Tire pressure

^ Inspect for visible damage to any suspension components



^ Wheel bearing axial play



^ Ball joints of suspension arms



^ Shock absorber operation and visual check for oil leakage



^ Condition of axle and suspension (check for bushing cracks and slack)



^ Vehicle weight



> Empty - no cargo luggage or passengers



> Fuel level is full



> Engine coolant and lubricating oils at specified levels



> Spare tire, jack, hand tools, and floor mats in designated positions



NOTE:



Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for information about any of the above checks and inspections.



4. Check the target mounts.



^ If there is any visual damage (bent, worn, cracked, etc) have the equipment repaired before performing any alignments.



^ Make sure the target mounts are properly adjusted and configured (see Figure 11).



NOTE:



The target mount example shown in Figure 11 is for Hunter "camera type" alignment machines. Follow the operation manual for your specific



equipment.



5. Make sure the targets are mounted correctly.

^ Mount the top claws first.



^ Claws must be flush against the wheel as shown in Figure 13.



^ Target must be flush against the center support as shown in Figure 14.

^ Make sure the targets are positioned with the arrow UP or level.



IMPORTANT:



Once you have set the target position, DO NOT reset it at anytime during the alignment process.



6. Begin the alignment procedure.



^ Follow all of the instructions for your particular equipment.



^ Refer to the Service Manual for alignment specifications.



If your equipment requires "rolling compensation", follow these additional tips:

^ DO NOT push or pull on the vehicle body.



IMPORTANT:



After performing "rolling compensation", DO NOT reset the target position.



When performing "caster sweep". follow these tips:



^ Apply the brakes as shown.



^ Start the engine to allow brake boost.



^ Turn the engine OFF.



^ Remove all lock pins - front "turn plates" and rear "slide plates".



^ Make sure the bridge plate will not interfere with movement of the turn plate.

Put the bridge plate in the down position.



^ Perform caster sweep by turning the steering wheel from outside the vehicle.



^ DO NOT push/pull on the tire to perform the caster sweep.



7. Make sure the steering wheel is centered when performing toe-in measurements and adjustments.



NOTE:



If you are using a Hunter alignment machine equipped with the WinToe(R) Alignment Adiustment System:



^ There is no need to lock the steering wheel. The WinToe(R) system is not affected by steering system movement during the adjustment process.



^ Bumping the tire or re-centering the steering wheel when adjusting near frozen tie rods is not necessary. This makes the adjustment process faster



and easier.



^ WinToe(R) eliminates the effect of lash in the steering system.



If you are using a John Bean alignment machine eguiDDed with EZ Toe:



^ There is no need to lock the steering wheel. The EZ Toe system is not affected by steering system movement during the adjustment process.



^ This software routine is an improved method of setting front toe making it easier to obtain a centered steering wheel.



^ With EZ Toe it is possible to adjust toe with the steering wheel turned at any angle left or right. This is helpful when setting toe on engine wall



mounted rack and pinion units.



IMPORTANT:



If during the alignment process the vehicle was lifted off of the rack; after lowering make sure to jounce (bounce) the vehicle before confirming



adjustments are correct.



After you have checked and adjusted vehicle alignment

8. Print the BEFORE and AFTER measurements and attach them to the Repair Order.



9. Road test the vehicle to make sure the steering wheel is "centered" when driving on a straight flat road.

10. When finished complete the Operations Performed Report above and attach it to the repair order.



Warranty Claim Information:

Engine Controls - ECM Replacement Procedure

ECM REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES WITH CONSULT III PLUS



APPLIED VEHICLES: All 2004 and later



IF YOU CONFIRM:



The Electronic Control Module (ECM) needs to be replaced on a 2004 MY and later vehicle.



ACTIONS:



After installing ECM:



^ Perform ECM Re-communicating Function (if supported).



^ Perform the "ACCELERATOR PEDAL & THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING" procedure (see step 3).



^ Perform the "IDLE AIR VOL LEARNING" procedure (when applicable) using CONSULT-III plus (CIII plus). (See step 4)



^ For 2005 and later vehicles, enter the vehicle VIN into the new ECM (see step 5).



^ Check for any new updates for the new ECM you're installing (see step 6).



CAUTION:



^ Failure to perform all the work steps in the specified order can cause poor engine running, MIL ON, or vehicle emission test rejection.



^ Some vehicles may have Additional Services When Replacing the ECM not covered within this bulletin. Refer to the model specific ESM and



CIII plus "Maintenance" tab for any additional model specific services.

SERVICE PROCEDURE



ECM Re-communication Function



1. Re-communicate the ECM with the BCM or Intelligent key.



^ Performing the following procedure can automatically perform a re-communication of a new ECM with a BCM or Intelligent Key unit (not all



models supported) so that the NATS keys do not need to be registered.



^ This Function will only work when the ECM has been replaced with a new one which has never been energized onboard.



^ If this function is not supported all of the keys may need to be individually registered.



a. Install new ECM.



. Use a registered key (*) to turn ignition switch to "ON".



* To perform this step, use a key that is registered to the original ECM that was replaced.



c. Maintain ignition switch in the "ON" position for at least 5 seconds.

d. Turn ignition switch to "OFF".



e. Start engine.



> If engine can be started continue to step 3.



2. If engine will NOT start, after you perform the ECM Re-Communication Function, all ignition keys will need to be individually registered,



including spare keys with CIII plus and then proceed with step 3.



^ Refer to the Immobilizer tab on the CIII plus home page to register keys.



NOTE:



When registering new Key IDs or replacing the ECM with other than brand new unit, refer to the Immobilizer tab on the CIII plus home page.



^ If multiple keys are attached to the key holder, separate them before work.



^ Distinguish keys with unregistered key ID from those with registered ID.



Accelerator Pedal & Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning



3. Perform the Accelerator Pedal & Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning as follows:



a. Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released.



b. Turn the ignition switch "ON" for 2 seconds.



c. Turn the ignition switch "OFF" for 10 seconds.



d. Turn the ignition switch "ON" for 2 seconds, then



e. Turn the ignition switch "OFF" again for 10 seconds (see Figure 1).



f. Proceed with step 4 (below).



Perform Idle Air Volume Learning (IAVL)



NOTE:



Make sure all electrical loads are turned OFF, including A/C, defroster, radio, lights, etc. while performing the following procedures. Also, make



sure the engine cooling fans are NOT operating during the following procedures.



4. Perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure as follows:



a. Connect CIII plus to the vehicle.



b. Warm up engine and transmission to operating temperature.



NOTE:



Vehicle may have to be driven to warm transmission enough to allow IAVL to complete.

c. In the CIII plus "Maintenance mode", select "IDLE AIR VOL LEARN" and then "Confirm". See Figure 2.



d. Press "Next" then "Start" on the IDLE AIR VOL LEARN screen. See Figure 3.



^ START cannot be selected until all operating conditions have been met.



The IAVL procedure will take several minutes to complete.



^ CIII plus will display "EXECUTING" in the "Current status" box while the IAVL EXECUTING procedure is in process. See Figure 4.

^ CIII plus will display "COMPLETE" in the Current status box when the IAVL procedure is finished. See Figure 5.



f. Once the IAVL procedure is finished, COMPLETE proceed with step 5 (below).



For 2005 and Later MY Vehicles ONLY: Enter VIN into New Service Replacement ECM



5. Enter the VIN into the new service replacement ECM as follows:



a. Select "Diagnosis (One System)", "ENGINE", "Work support" and "VIN REGISTRATION". See Figure 6.



b. Enter the vehicle VIN in both the VIN (1st TIME) and VIN (2nd TIME) boxes, then select Start. See Figure 7.

c. Once completed (COMAND SUCCEED; See Figure 8) turn the ignition off for 10 seconds, then back on and check for any DTCs.



d. Select "READ VIN" and confirm that the VIN is correct.



^ If VIN does not display it can also be checked through the "RE/programming, Configuration" tab.



Check for ECM Updates



6. Check and confirm that ECM is updated to most recent part number and perform reprogram procedure if not most current.



> Select and use the reprogramming option that does not have the message "Caution! Use ONLY with NTBXX-XXX".



^ If you are not familiar with checking for an ECM update or with the reprogramming procedure refer to C-III plus "ECM Reprogramming



general procedure".



^ If an update is not listed and a blank screen is displayed (see figure 9), a reprogram is not available for the ECM.

- Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.



- When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 1/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big



jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.



CONSULT-III Reference Value in Data Monitor Mode



On Board Diagnosis Logic



- This is an OBD-II self-diagnostic item.



- Diagnostic trouble code "P0740" with CONSULT-III or 3rd judgment flicker without CONSULT-III is detected under the following



conditions.



- When TCM detects an improper voltage drop when it tries to operate the solenoid valve.



- When TCM detects as irregular by comparing target value with monitor value.



Possible Cause



- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve



- Harness or connectors



(Solenoid circuit is open or shorted.)



DTC Confirmation Procedure



CAUTION:



Always drive vehicle at a safe speed.



NOTE:



If "DTC Confirmation Procedure" has been previously performed, always turn ignition switch "OFF" and wait at least 10 seconds



before performing the next test.



After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm the malfunction is eliminated.



WITH CONSULT-III



1. Start the engine.



2. Select "DATA MONITOR" in "TRANSMISSION".



3. Drive vehicle and maintain the following conditions for at least 5 consecutive seconds.



VHCL/S SE-A/T: 80 km/h (50 MPH) or more



ACCELE POSI: 0.5/8 - 1.0/8



SLCT LVR POSI: "D" position



Driving location: Driving the vehicle uphill (increased engine load) will help maintain the driving conditions required for this test.



4. If DTC is detected, go to See: P Code Charts/P0740/5AT RE5R05A.



WITH GST



Follow the procedure "WITH CONSULT-III".

SERVICE INFORMATION:



If the doors will not lock/unlock using the Intelligent Key buttons and/or the Door Request Switch; before replacing any component:

a. Review the door look/unlock Diagnostic Items in this bulletin and



b. Follow all diagnostic steps in the appropriate Service Manual.



NOTE:



The Intelligent Key door lock/unlock functions are controlled by several components. Proper diagnostic steps should be performed before replacing



any part. The BCM (Body Control Module) is usually not the cause of an inoperative condition.



DIAGNOSTIC ITEMS



NOTE:



When testing door lock/unlock with Intelligent Key:



^ Set the ignition switch position to OFF or LOCK.



^ Put the shift lever in Park.



^ Intelligent key is not inserted into key slot (if equipped).



^ All doors are closed.



^ Intelligent key is outside the vehicle and 6 feet or less from the request switch.



^ As needed refer to Figure 2 above.



Check operation of the door locks with the power door lock switch.



^ If a door will lock/unlock with the power door lock switch on the inside door panel then the actuator is OK and the wiring between the



actuator and BCM is OK.



^ If needed refer to the appropriate Service Manual to diagnose and repair the power door lock system.



Check signals from the Intelligent Key and the vehicle antenna using Signal Tech II.

^ Follow the Signal Tech II instruction manual for Intelligent Key Testing.



^ The Signal Tech II instruction manual is found in ASIST under Tools & Equipment.



Correct any no-signal or low-signal conditions:



^ If there is no-signal or low-signal from the Intelligent Key inspect the Intelligent Key and its battery.



> Refer to ITB08-051 for intelligent key inspection.



> Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for battery test procedure.



> Intelligent Key battery voltage must be above 2.8 volts.



> If the battery voltage is OK replace the Intelligent Key.



^ If there is no-signal or low-signal from the outside door handle antenna check the antenna.



> Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for antenna diagnostic and repair procedure.



Confirm the BCM is receiving door lock/unlock signals



^ Use C-III or C-III plus> Intelligent Key> Data Monitor.



^ REQ SW-DR/AS will change OFF > ON as Door Request Switch is pressed.



^ RKE - LOCK/UNLOCK will change OFF > ON as the buttons on the Intelligent Key (keyfob) are pressed.



NG - Repair as needed. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual



NOTE:



The Remote Keyless Entry Receiver must confirm the NATS / Intelligent Key is registered before the doors will lock/unlock with Request Switch or



the Intelligent Key (keyfob) buttons.



Confirm NATS / Intelligent Key registration



^ Refer to the appropriate Service Manual and C-III / C-III plus operators manual for NATS / Intelligent Key registration confirmation.
