This bulletin amends ITB02-080c. The Claims Information has been amended. Please discard all paper copies of the earlier versions.

IF YOU CONFIRM:
The driver's seat cushion feels loose;
^ "Rocks" back and forth and/or makes a "pop", "click", "creak" or "clunk" noise.
^ If it occurs it usually happens when the vehicle accelerates from a stop or when making a turn.

ACTIONS:
^ For 2003 model year vehicles: Replace the driver's Seat Lifter Motor Unit Assembly and Lifter Link Assemblies.
^ For 2004 - 2006 & Applied 2007 model year vehicles: Replace ONLY the driver's Seat Lifter Link Assemblies.
IMPORTANT:
DO NOT replace the entire seat adjuster assembly for this incident, if it should occur.

Seat Disassembly / Old Part Removal
1. Remove the driver seat from the vehicle as follows:
a. Write down radio pre-sets.
b. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
c. Remove the headrest from the seat back.
d. Adjust the seat slide position to about the middle of travel.
e. Adjust the steering wheel tilt to the highest position.
f. Refer to section SE in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for seat removal information.
WARNING:
Before removing the front seat make sure to:
^ Disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first) and
^ Wait for at least 3 minutes.
^ DO NOT drop, tilt or bump the side air bag module installed in the seat back. Always handle it with care.
g. Place the seat in a clean working area.

Refer to seat "exploded view" as needed while disassembling the seat.

2. Remove the seat belt buckle from the seat (see Figure 1).
a. Disconnect seat belt buckle electrical connector from under the seat.
b. Remove the buckle attaching bolt.
c. Remove the buckle and buckle electrical harness.
3. Remove the inner seat finisher (see Figure 1).
4. Remove the front and outer seat finishers (see Figure 2).
^ If equipped disconnect the ADP switch.
5. Disconnect the power seat switch harness connectors (see Figure 3).

6. Remove the power seat switch assembly (see Figure 4).
a. Remove the tape covering the attaching screws (tape not shown in the illustration).
b. Remove the two (2) attaching screws.
c. Pull the power seat switch harness out of the seat.
7. Disconnect under-seat harness connectors and harness mounting points (see Figure 5).
a. Disconnect the trim cloth hooks.
b. Disconnect each power seat motor connector.
c. Detach harnesses from mounting points.
d. If equipped disconnect the ADP control unit (ADP control unit not shown in illustration).

8. Remove the four (4) seat back retaining bolts (see Figure 6).
^ Two (2) on the right side (shown).
^ Two (2) on the left side (not shown).
9. Carefully lift the seat back from the seat bottom (with the harnesses) and place it out of the way on a clean surface (see Figure 7).
10. Remove the seat cushion trim and pad from the seat cushion frame (see Figure 8 and 9).
a. Unsnap the side trim retaining clips.
^ Two (2) on the right side (shown).
^ Two (2) on the left side (not shown).
b. Twist the trim lip off front and rear (see Figure 9).

C. Lift the seat cushion pad from the seat cushion frame.
11. Remove the four (4) seat cushion frame retaining bolts (see Figure 10).
12. Lift the seat cushion frame from the lifter and slide assembly (see Figure 11).
NOTE:
The torsion bar on the front Seat Lifter Link Bracket applies tension to the cushion frame mounting studs. It will be necessary to carefully
pry the frame loose as it is lifted from its mounting position.
13. Remove the seat cushion rods RH and LH (see Figure 12).
A. Remove 2 bolts attaching seat cushion rod to the bracket as shown in Figure 12.

B. Remove 2 seat belt bolts and bracket (see Figure 12).
NOTE:
Discard these bolts. They will not be reused. When installing you'll use new bolts with coated threads.
14. Remove the four (4) bolts and two (2) nuts securing the Seat Lifter Motor Unit Assembly (see Figure 13).
15. Remove the motor unit assembly from its mounting position and set it out of the way (see Figure 14).
IMPORTANT:
Please pay close attention to step 16.
16. Place the lifter and slide assembly in the vehicle and secure it to the floor using all 4 seat mounting bolts.
^ This step is IMPORTANT to maintain proper alignment of the slide assembly when the lifter link is removed.

17. Remove the ADP control unit (CU) and the slide motor drive wire protector-2 nuts (see Figure 15).
^ If equipped the ADP control unit is attached to the top of the drive wire protector.
18. Remove the remaining 2 nuts from the front lifter link and remove the lifter link.
New Front Lifter Link Installation
19. Install the new front lifter link assy. and reinstall the drive wire protector and ADP control unit.

^ Tighten the 4 nuts in the order shown in Figure 17.
^ Tightening torque: 20.6 - 26.5 Nm (2.1 - 2.7 kg-m 16 - 19 lb.ft)
^ The new front lifter link assembly is listed in the parts information section of this bulletin.
20. Reinstall the seat belt bracket.
^ Torque the 2 M108 "black" nuts to: 43.5-58 Nm (4.4-5.9 Kg-m m, 32.43 ft.lb.)
21. Remove 1 nut and the attached looped bracket located on the rear part of the lifter link assy.
22. Remove remaining 3 nuts holding the rear lifter link assy. then remove the assy.
New Rear Lifter Link Installation
23. Install new rear lifter link assy. from the Parts Information section of this bulletin and the looped bracket.
Tighten the 4 nuts:
^ Torque the 2 M8 "gold" nuts to: 11.0-14.5 Nm (1.12-1.47 kg-m, 8.1-10.7 ft-lb.)
^ Torque the 2 M10 "black" nuts to: 43.5-58.5 Nm (4.4-5.9 Kg-m, 32-43 ft.lb.)

24. For 2003 Model Year Vehicles: Place the new Seat Lifter Motor Unit Assembly onto its mounting position.
NOTE:
The new Seat Lifter Motor Unit comes with 6 new bolts that you don't need to use.
For 2004 - 2006 & Applied 2007 Model Year Vehicles:
Place (re-install) the old Seat Lifter Motor Unit Assembly into its mounting position.
25. Secure the Motor Unit with the original 4 bolts and 2 nuts.
^ Tighten the bolts and nuts to: 20.6 - 26.5 Nm (2.1 - 2.7 kg-m, 16 - 19 lb.ft)
26. Remove the seat mounting bolts then remove the lifter and slide assembly from the vehicle.

27. Install the seat cushion rods RH and LH (see Figure 21).
IMPORTANT:
Make sure to use new bolts with coated threads.
^ Six (6) new bolts are included with the Lifter Link Assembly. You will only need to use 4 of them 2 will be left over.
Tighten the bolts to: 17.6 - 26.5 Nm (1.8 - 2.7 kg-m 13.0 - 19.5 lb.ft).
28. Re-install the seat cushion frame as follows:
a. First install the front and attach with nuts (see Figure 22).
b. Then push the cushion frame back to align the rear studs and install the rear nuts (see Figure 23).
29. Finish reassembling the seat in reverse order of disassembly.
^ Refer to seat exploded view previously shown as needed.

^ Use the tip (Shown below titled "Tip for Installing the Seat Cushion Trim") to ease installation of the seat cushion trim.
30. Install new tape on the side of the power seat switch.
^ New tape is listed in the Parts Information.
31. Re-install the seat into the vehicle.
^ Refer to section SE in the ESM as needed.
^ Tighten the seat mounting bolts to: 43.1 - 54.9 Nm (4.4 - 5.5 kg-m 32-40 lb-ft.).
32. Connect the battery cables (positive cable first).
33. Reset the clock and radio station pre-sets.
34. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the seat does not feel loose and it doesn't make any noise.
Tip for Installing the Seat Cushion Trim
^ Make sure the cushion pad and trim are centered on the cushion frame.
^ Align the trim plastic lip with the metal flange as shown (see Figure 25).

^ Then twist the trim plastic lip around and under the flange to secure it in place (see Figure 26).
